Bedspreads
A bed is dressed from the top down, and the bedspread is the layer that decides how the room reads. Ours are the considered kind, quilted, woven and sateen-finished, cut generously enough to fall the way a made bed should and made in cloth chosen to hold its colour and its shape over years. They span cotton, linen and velvet, each cut to drape and to sit as the centrepiece of the room rather than flat against the mattress.
The quilting is where the work shows. Trapunto and channel stitching give the surface relief and shadow, catching the light as the bed is made and softening as it settles. Choose by the room: the cotton and linen pieces breathe and quilt cleanly for warmer rooms; the velvet carries depth and weight for the cooler months; the herringbone weaves bring a tailored texture; and the sateen finishes hold a low, even sheen that reads as calm rather than shine.
Dress it in one of two ways: let the spread run over the sheet to the floor, or fold it three-quarters up the bed to add volume at the foot. Finish with matching shams and a row of cushion covers, and the whole bed is composed in a single move. For a lighter layer through the warmer months, a quilt does the same work in less weight.
Each bedspread is cut to one generous size, 250 × 250 cm, draping a king or queen and reaching the floor, and is dry clean only, which keeps the colour true and the quilting intact over years. From a single quilted bedspread to a fully dressed bed, these are designer bedspreads in cotton, linen and velvet, built to be layered and lived with. Across India.
Bedspread questions
Are bedspreads still in style?
Very much so. The bedspread has returned as the defining layer of a well-dressed bed, the piece that gives a room proportion and finish. It does what a duvet alone cannot: it composes the whole bed, pillows and all, into one considered surface.
What is the difference between a bedspread, a quilt and a coverlet?
A bedspread is the largest of the three, cut to cover the bed entirely and fall to the floor. A quilt is lighter and usually sits within the bed’s footprint, layered over a sheet. A coverlet is lighter still, a thin decorative top layer. We make both bedspreads and quilts: choose the bedspread for full coverage and drape, the quilt for a lighter, layered look.
What size are your bedspreads?
One considered size, a generous 250 × 250 cm square, cut to drape a king or queen with an even fall down both sides and across the foot rather than sitting tight to the mattress. All measurements are in centimetres, as is standard across India.
How do I style a bedspread?
Run it over the sheet to the floor, or fold it three-quarters up the bed to add volume at the foot. Finish with matching shams behind the pillows and a row of cushion covers in front. Fewer and larger reads more composed than many small pieces.
How are bedspreads cared for?
Dry clean only, every one. It keeps the colour true, the quilting and weave intact, and the piece draping as it should over years.
Do bedspreads come as a set?
Yes. A bedspread with matching shams and cushion covers makes a complete bedspread set, sized for a king or queen, and selected designs are offered as a single coordinated set.
Can I exchange a bedspread?
Yes. We run an exchange policy rather than refunds, so a bedspread can be exchanged for another. The exchange policy has the details.
