What is a garment cover?

A protective cover, also called a garment bag or hanging garment bag, that hangs over clothing on the rail. It keeps dust, light and rubbing off the pieces you store between wears, particularly occasion wear and heavier embellished garments.

What are they made of?

Sheer organza with a linen blend trim in ecru. Full-length front zip, an opening at the top for the hanger hook, and a carry loop. They are not velvet and not quilted. A garment cover wants to be light and breathable, which is the opposite of what a shaper wants to be.

Which size do I need?

All four are 58 cm wide and differ in length. Small, 70 cm, for jackets, leather jackets, shirts and short tailoring. Medium, 90 cm, for suits, blazers, overcoats and short dresses, and the size most wardrobes need most of. Large, 120 cm, for midi dresses, long overcoats and heavier tailoring. Extra Large, 150 cm, for gowns, long dresses and full-length coats.

Why is the base left open?

So a longer piece can hang through rather than having its hem folded up to fit. The cover protects the shoulders and body, where garments touch in a wardrobe, and never forces a hem.

Why sheer instead of an opaque garment bag?

Two reasons. You can see what is on the hanger without unzipping anything, which matters when several covers hang together. And unlike plastic or non-woven, an open weave lets air move through, so stored clothing stays fresh through a humid season.

Can I store occasion wear and heavy embroidery in one?

Yes, and those are the pieces these are really for. Take the Extra Large at 150 cm for anything full length. Heavy embroidery needs room on a rail, and a sheer cover lets you check on it without opening a thing.
