A barrel bag is a cylinder, and nothing rectangular fills a cylinder properly. Put a flat shaper in one and the sides still cave, because there is nothing holding the curve out.
The Barrel is round in section and cut deep, so it fills a barrel or Boston bag the way it was built. Quilted velvet outside, soft filling inside.

Barrel and Boston bags, around 28 cm long. To check your fit, measure the length and depth of your bag.
