A chain does two kinds of damage. Carried on a bare shoulder it digs in, and resting against the bag it marks the leather at exactly the point where the strap meets the body.
The Chain Wrap sits between the two. Padded on the inside, quilted velvet on the outside, and closed with a fold-over flap so it stays where you put it.

Doubled chains and heavier bags, where more of the chain rests on the shoulder and more of it needs covering.
